After 1NT opening

2NT response to Stayman

  • 1NT-2-2NT: Promises 15-16 HCP and either a 5 card major, or 4-4 in the majors.
    • 3: What's your 5 card major?
      • 3: 4-4 /
    • 3: Transfer to if opener had 4
      • 3: 4 or 5
      • 3: 5
    • 3: Transfer to if opener had 4
      • 3: 4 or 5
      • 3NT: 5

3-suited responses to 1NT

1NT-3/ shows GF 3-suited hands. Continuation is the same as after 1-3/:

  • 1NT-3: GF, 4441 with short black suit
    • 3: What's your 4-card black suit?
      • 3/: Long (1444) / long (4441). Responses are steps by rank.
    • 3: Setting trumps, not minimum
  • 1NT-3: GF, 4441 with short red suit
    • 3: What's your 4-card black suit?
      • 3/NT: Long (4144) / long (4414), again by rank
    • 3: Setting trumps, not minimum

Namyats

A 4 or 4 opening shows a self-sufficient / suit, and 8/8.5 tricks unvulnerable/vulnerable.

We also play it as an overcall after opponent opened a suit on the one level: e.g. 1-(4)

After strong 1C

Kokish 2H

  • 1-1-2: Either a strong hand with a suit, or a strong balanced 25+ HCP hand.
    • 2: Responder would bid it with almost any hands
      • 2NT: 25+ hcp, balanced hand. System is on, same after 2NT opening.
      • Any other: Strong hand, natural continuation.

Extension to control responses after 1NT

  • 1-1x (forcing, natural)-1NT: Control asking
    • 3x: 0-2 controls, 7+ card suit
    • 3y: 0-2 controls, at least 5-5 in the two suits.

Extension to strength showing responses after 1NT

  • 1-1-1NT
    • 2: 15 HCP, artificial
    • 2/3/3/3: 16+ HCP, cheapest 4 card suit

Roman Keycard Bids

Responses to 4NT

  • 5C: 0 or 3 KC
  • 5D: 1 or 4 KC
  • 5H: 2 or 5 KC w/o the trump Q
  • 5S: 2 (or 5) KC w/ the trump Q
  • 5N: even number of KC and a useful void
  • 5x: odd number of KC and useful void in x

Continuation

Further asking bids from inquirer:

  • After a response that does not tell about the trump Q (0/3 or 1/4 KCs):
    • 1st (non-trump) step: Q ask
    • 2nd (non-trump) step: specific K ask
  • After a response telling about the trump Q (2/5 KCs):
    • 1st (non-trump) step: specific K ask

Responses to Q ask

  • lowest trump bid: no Q
  • any other: have the Q. If possible we try to show lowest specific K (below 6trumps) as well.
    • E.g. with trump after 4NT-5-5:
      • 5N: has Q, no minor K, may or may not have K.
      • 6/: Has Q, lowest specific K
      • 6: no Q
    • With trump after 4NT-5-5:
      • 5: no Q
      • 5N: has Q, no outside K
      • 5, 6/: has Q, lowest specific K.
    • With trump after 4NT-5-5:
      • 5, 6: has Q, shows lowest K
      • 5N: has Q, no black Ks, may or may not have K.
      • 6: no Q

After a K showing response, if inquirer bids a new suit, it asks responder to bid the grand if he has that K, too. Over an ambigous 5N the next non-trump step asks to bid the grand if responder has a K.

Responses to specific K ask

  • 7 trump shows 3 outside Ks
  • lowest trump shows no outside Ks
  • a suit shows either that K or the other 2.
    • for example given trumps, after 4N-5-5N:
      • 6: K, or both and Ks
      • 6: K, or both and Ks
      • 6: K, or both and Ks (inquirer must be careful!)
  • 5N shows the lowest K one step over the trump suit
    • for example given trumps, after 4N-5H-5S:
      • 5N: K
      • 6: K or both and Ks
      • 6: both and Ks
      • 6: K or both and Ks

If opponents overcall 4NT

We play D0P1/R0P1:

  • Double/Redouble: 0 or 3 KC
  • Pass: 1 or 4 KC
  • 1st step: 2 or 5 w/o the Q, etc.

Continuation is as before.
