New suits by opener are natural and ask for a description of responder's degree of fit and general hand strength (in terms of controls). A rebid of 1N is natural and asks for controls. See Asking Bids.

Jumps into new suits show a solid suit and set the suit for subsequent bidding (usually cue bidding).

A jump raise of responder's major suit shows a minimum balanced hand (about 17-18 HCP) with 4 card support. A jump raise of responder's major to game shows a minimum balanced hand (17-18 HCP) with 3 card support.
